Let’s Work Together to Make a Difference

May is Mental Health Month and Core Recovery is using this as a great opportunity to increase mental health awareness and reach out to those who need help … AND those who CAN help.

Throughout the month, we’ll highlight tools individuals can use to:

  • Prioritize their mental health
  • Build resiliency in the face of trauma and obstacles
  • Support others who are struggling
  • Work toward a path of recovery

“Everyone faces challenges in life that can impact their mental health,” says Jillian Vanselow, Core Recovery CEO. “The good news is there are practical tools that individuals can use to improve their mental health and increase resiliency. And beyond that, there are ways we can support our friends, family, and co-workers who are struggling with life’s challenges or their mental health.”

“That support can be so beneficial,” says Jillian. “Simple kindness can make a huge impact on someone who struggles with mental health issues. And I’m telling you, those people are all around us, especially now. They need our kindness, help, and support more than ever.”

“One of the easiest tools anyone can use is taking a mental health screening,” says Jillian. “Free screenings are available from Mental Health America at mhascreening.org. It’s a quick, free, and private way for people to assess your mental health and recognize signs of mental health problems.”

Focusing on #Tools2Thrive

During the month, Core Recovery is supporting Mental Health America’s #Tools2Thrive, which focus on 6 key areas to boost the mental health and general wellness of you and your loved ones:

  1. Recognize and owning your feelings. Taking the time to identify what you’re feeling can help you to better cope with challenging situations.
  2. Finding the positive after loss. Finding ways to remember the good things about who or what we’ve lost can help us recover mentally and emotionally.
  3. Connecting with others. It’s important to make connections with other people who help enrich our lives and get us through tough times.
  4. Eliminating toxic influences. It’s also important to recognize and eliminate people and situations in life that make us feel bad or engage in destructive behaviors.
  5. Creating healthy routines. Organizing our days to take care of tasks and ourselves makes it easier to get things done without feeling overwhelmed, stressed or anxious.
  6. Supporting others. Whether it’s a close friend or a stranger, there are things we can do everyday to support those who need encouragement.

Recovery is Possible

For each of us, the tools we use to keep us mentally healthy will be unique. But Core Recovery wants everyone to know that mental illnesses are real, and recovery is possible.

It may not be easy, but recovery can be achieved by gradually making small changes and building on those successes. By developing your own #Tools2Thrive, it is possible to find balance between work and play, the ups and downs of life, and physical health and mental health – and set yourself on the path to recovery.

If you feel you need the support of a trained professional, we are here to help too. Call us anytime at 602-810-1210.
