In America, anxiety and depression are the most common mental health disorders. Often, people can suffer from both conditions at the same time. Anxiety and depression can disrupt work, school, and a person’s ability to participate in social situations. With some individuals, the disruptions are not as apparent. They hide their suffering and can manage daily activities. Other people may view them as being fine and dismiss the idea that anything is wrong. Unfortunately, only about a third of people who have anxiety or depression will seek treatment. This fact is especially true for adolescents, where brain changes increase a teen’s vulnerability. When anxiety and depression are left untreated, a sufferer’s life can decline to the point where they are merely surviving in distress.
