What We Treat.
Our partial hospitalization program (PHP) treats a wide variety of mental health issues. Some of the most common issues our patients struggle with are depression, trauma, anxiety, grief, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and other mood disorders.
Moreover, oftentimes our patients struggle with more than one mental health challenge at once, and/or they struggle with mental health issues alongside addiction and substance abuse. Core Recovery’s PHP program utilizes a trauma-informed approach to patient care, which focuses on treating the whole person. In practice, that means treating one or more presenting issues, as well as treating the way that those challenges intersect, or “co-occur”, in that individual’s life.
What is a Mental Health PHP Program in Phoenix, AZ?
The phrase “partial hospitalization program” (PHP) is a bit misleading, because it does not actually involve hospitalization. Partial Hospitalization for mental health programs are an integrated treatment programs for individuals struggling with one or more mental health conditions who do not require actual inpatient hospitalization. PHP programs offer more care per week than traditional therapy or intensive outpatient programs, but less care per week than residential or inpatient programming.
At PHP programs like Core Recovery, patients arrive in the morning and leave in the afternoon, and sleep in their own beds in the evenings. There are no overnight stays.
The following patients are likely to benefit from a PHP for mental health program:
- Arizonans who see a therapist once or twice per week, but who could benefit from more intensive care for a period of time.
- Arizonans who are attending an intensive outpatient program, but require additional care.
- Arizonans who have spent time in a residential facility or inpatient program, and are looking to progressively reduce the amount of care they are receiving (also known as “stepping down” to a lower level of care).
The Program Schedule table below presents a breakdown of the partial hospitalization level of care versus other levels of mental health care.

The Program Schedule.
Core Recovery’s mental health partial hospitalization programming occurs 5 days per week, Monday through Friday.
Most adults attending the mental health PHP program are not currently employed, or are on a short break from work. Likewise, adolescents in the mental health PHP program are often not participating in in-person classroom learning. In both cases, Core Recovery’s clinicians work with our PHP patients to develop a customized treatment plan tailored to working with them to “step down” to an intensive outpatient level of care, so they are able to resume work or school if they choose to do so.
