How Can PHP Help Me?
The Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) at Core Recovery provides significant and time-intensive treatment for those living with co-occurring psychological disorders, including but not limited to one or more of the following:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Bipolar Disorder (I and II)
- Personality Disorders
- PTSD
- Substance and alcohol use
- Trauma
PHP offers structured outpatient therapy for those who require significant support and a high level of treatment but don’t reasonably need it or have been recently discharged from inpatient services.
This treatment program offers a variety of rigorous individual and group therapy sessions and activities, as well as medication management under the care of our experienced psychiatric provider.
Depending on your diagnosis, you may participate in a trauma disorder, eating disorder, or OCD PHP program, each customized to meet your needs.
The Partial Hospitalization Program requires participants to attend intensive treatment for at least five hours a day, five days per week, but without the overnight requirements of a residential program that may cause them to feel a loss of freedom. With PHP, you are an active participant in your treatment.
What to Expect from Our Partial Hospitalization Program
Core’s PHP requires patients to participate in the program for a minimum of 20 hours per week. We offer programs for adolescents (13-17 years old) and adults (18+).
Core Recovery provides integrative treatment utilizing evidence-based practices for adults and adolescents. While every patient’s care differs, all therapeutic approaches are designed to provide relief.
After a clinical assessment, including medical history review, physical examination, psychosocial assessment, therapist evaluation, and psychiatric evaluation, an individual treatment plan will be created and discussed with the patient and their family or support person.
A typical day may consist of a group therapy session, individual therapy or family systems therapy session, a therapeutic art session, psychiatric evaluation, medication management, mental health education, and skill-building practice, all conducted by a team of licensed mental health professionals.
As a fully certified and licensed outpatient treatment center, Core Recovery has staff psychiatrist nurse practitioners for medication management.
Your PHP treatment options may include:
- Five hours of treatment per day, five days per week
- Individual therapy/counseling
- Family therapy
- Creative Expression (therapeutic art sessions)
- Case management
- Psychiatric evaluation and medication management
- EMDR services
- A dedicated treatment team to facilitate care and collaborate with outside providers
- Emphasis on developing values-oriented behaviors, learning and practicing recovery skills, and developing healthy support systems to sustain recovery following discharge.
At Core Recovery, we believe that family plays an essential role in a client’s treatment and can lead to a more rewarding and successful outcome.
A partner, guardian, spouse, or partner is encouraged to attend a family systems therapy session once a week with their loved one. Therefore Family therapy sessions may be included in your program if needed.
Core Recovery uses diverse therapy techniques to treat the entire person. Your program will be individually designed to offer you the best road map to your success and recovery. Scheduling and programming will depend on your individual needs.
How to Know if PHP Is Right for You
When seeking treatment for your mental health or substance abuse problem, navigating the different levels of care can be difficult. Core Recovery will help you identify the best path to your recovery, including help with determining if PHP is right for you.
Our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is geared toward individuals who are:
- Struggling to function at work, school, or home
- Not at risk of harming themselves or others
- Medically stable
- Eager to participate in their treatment
- Experiencing co-morbid mental health and substance use disorders.
PHP vs. Rehab
Rehab programs are usually residential programs, meaning you will live at the rehabilitation facility. Our PHP does not require you to live where you receive care.
Rehab is also explicitly designed for substance use disorders, whereas partial hospitalization programs are offered for anyone struggling with mental health or substance use disorders.
How Long Is the Partial Hospitalization Program?
Core Recovery’s Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) group therapy sessions for chemical dependency, trauma, and mental health are offered Monday through Friday in the mornings and evenings. This allows those attending to maintain their employment and education status while seeking help.
Also included each week are an individual therapy session, a session with our psychiatric medication provider, and creative expression art groups.
The length of the program is tailored to the patient’s clinical assessment and designed to create a transition to a happier and more rewarding life.
The Benefits of PHP
A partial hospitalization program is one of the highest levels of care available. It may be the best choice for those who need full-time treatment but want to maintain the normalcy of living outside a residential facility or hospital setting.
For many individuals whose lives have been negatively affected by drugs and alcohol addiction or other mental illnesses, our partial hospitalization program can provide the intensive, consistent care they need to get their lives back on track.
In addition, partial hospitalization programs generally cost less than inpatient care in a hospital.
As a participant in our program, you’ll receive rigorous therapeutic treatment while balancing your recovery goals with the ability to maintain your outside support network. You’ll continue to work on life skills in a normal environment, which is critical to your recovery.
PHP vs. Residential Treatment
Inpatient care, while often effective, can be challenging when you are required to remain in a hospital, clinic, rehab, or similar facility.
Residential treatment offers the chance to remove yourself from negative environments where you may be tempted to engage in destructive behavior regarding drug or alcohol use.
At the same time, this type of arrangement is not always feasible. You likely have work or family obligations that would keep you from participating in full-time care.
PHP is typically the better option for you in this case. You will receive the benefits of directed treatment while you continue residing at home.
Core Recovery’s PHP and IOP are ideally suited for those who have a safe and stable home environment, including having encouraging family members and friends able to lend a hand during your recovery.
Other treatment options may be more appropriate for those with more serious cases of addiction or co-occurring disorders. These usually require round-the-clock supervision.
