DBT balances the validation of an individual’s experience with developing skills to manage crises, regulate emotions, and enhance motivation to change. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy primarily helps clients recognize and change problematic patterns of thinking and behaving. By contrast, DBT primarily helps clients regulate intense emotions and improve interpersonal relationships through validation, acceptance and behavior change.
