Mindfulness is the underlying foundation behind all Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills. This integration of cognitive-behavioral techniques and mindfulness skills is a powerful treatment for depression, anxiety, addictive tendencies, impulse control, and personality disorders.
DBT balances the validation of an individual’s experience with developing skills to manage crises, regulate emotions, and enhance motivation to change. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy primarily helps patients recognize and change problematic patterns of thinking and behaving. By contrast, DBT primarily helps patients regulate intense emotions and improve interpersonal relationships through validation, acceptance and behavior change.
